The Park Purchasing Buzz Fear: motivator, paralyzer, catalyst, denial, worry, anger, opportunity, tool, impetus. Fear can be all of these things – like the stages of grief, one might experience many emotions and reactions when faced with fear. We may move through them or we may fixate on one or two. No doubt, as you read this, you are personalizing these feelings to your own experiences, current or past. If you rent a space in a manufactured home park (MHP), chances are you have some level of fear concerning the stability of your living situation, whether you have received a notice that your park is for sale or just know that since you don’t own the land your home sits on you are vulnerable. Whichever place you find yourself in, educate yourself about your options and the possibilities. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek out information, talk with your neighbors and the park owner. Even if your park feels stable, become educated about what is happening in other parks throughout Oregon and across the nation. Join a network of people who can keep you in the loop. Be informed, join your park’s resident association, if there isn’t one, create one!
