MEMBERSHIP IS CRUCIAL! MHOO/OSTA Board of Directors has launched a membership campaign to reinforce its structure and assure the important work it does continues into the next decade! This is a critical time in the lives of manufactured home park dwellers. A lot of parks have been in existence for many years and the long-time owners are looking at retirement and moving on. In other cases, the parks are owned by investors who see now as the time to either let go of these holdings in exchange for the big dollars of developers, or even changing the parks to high yield condo or single-family home development. Whatever the reason, many park residents find themselves in a precarious situation. Others, who are not facing this situation, may in the future. Manufactured Home Park residents are concerned, and with good reason! OSTA is an active participant in working fervently to give park residents more control and power over their destiny when this situation arises. Along with attending many meetings regarding these issues, helping write policy and procedure regarding acceptable notification, options and rights of park residents and being involved in the creation of resident associations, OSTA is involved in proactive measures with partners to bring more options to residents including park purchase and co-op opportunities. As a Manufactured Home Park resident you need to be involved. You must be aware of your vulnerabilities. You must be part of the solution. Through your OSTA membership you are involved, aware and contributing to the resolution of these issues and all of the others that come up over time. Those not able to get out there with OSTA and actively work for these changes can stay informed through your OSTA membership, newsletters and webpage. You can move mountains by renewing your OSTA membership and encouraging your friends and neighbors in park living to do the same. We are doing our very best to be in many places at one time, to wear many hats, to report back to the membership and to be available for support and technical assistance to members, but we are a non-profit board with only one paid, part-time staff person who does the work of three full-time people.
